The Richlam® Self-Healing Mortar Waterproofing System includes two formulations—Richlam 500 (crystalline waterproofing admixture for mortar) and Richlam 600 (acrylic-based polymer waterproofing agent). These products are engineered for use in a wide range of dry-mix mortars, including ready-mixed mortar, self-leveling mortar, decorative mortar, insulation plaster, tile adhesive, wall putty, and more.
Richlam®’s mortar waterproofing additives are based on either crystalline waterproofing technology or polymer-based film formation, both inspired by the regenerative mechanisms of bone tissue in nature. These mortar waterproofing chemicals help suppress early shrinkage cracks, promote self-healing of new cracks, and form a dense, resilient waterproof barrier within the mortar matrix. These components demonstrate powerful permeability, crystallization, hydrophilicity, and alkali activation—allowing them to penetrate deeply and react effectively inside the mortar substrate.
According to research from the Richlam® Technical Center, the alkalinity inside cement mortar is up to 360 times higher than at the surface. This makes mortar an ideal medium for activating crystalline waterproofing agents. Once triggered by moisture, the hydrophilic growth factors chase water through microcracks and pores, producing tightly bonded crystals that block water ingress. These agents enhance the impermeability and longevity of mortar-based waterproofing layers.

Richlam® self-healing mortar waterproofing admixture is added during mortar mixing. In dry conditions, the system remains dormant.

Upon cracking and water exposure, crystalline growth factors are activated by the high-alkaline environment and react with cement hydration products. Crystals form to seal cracks up to 0.4 mm.

Once sealed, water movement is blocked, but the mortar remains vapor-permeable, allowing trapped moisture to escape. This keeps internal conditions dry.

As drying continues, the system returns to dormancy. Future exposure to moisture will reactivate the growth factors to generate new crystals and restore the barrier.
